What I learned from the mid-term:
I liked the first part of the exam, because it was helpful to match main ideas with theories, and important figures and contributors. The one sentence thing was tough, but it was helpful to form a cohesive agreement among terms especially since we have studied a wide range of material. It was challenging , because it forced me to think like a new media theorist, philosopher, or just a new media thinker/observer. Even though we've been in class for a while, it's hard for me to fight the old idea of media as TV and technology as science, that I started out with. I've learned that these terms are much more encompassing than a black and white explanation can provide. First of all, there is no one, definite answer. Interpretation play a large role in understanding new media as well as the abandonment of old ideas we may have automatically accepted about new media without really understanding or challenging built-in ideas. I like that so much of what we are studying is socially, historically, politically, and globally relevant. The exam helped me learn how to incorporate the terms in to a situation that is important or relevant to me. i could incorporate world issues into almost all of my answers which provided a deeper understanding as well as a personal stance on my part.
