Here is a website advertising ID chips. This is an example of a technological implant that, while it draws interest because of the potential security benefits it provides, is also very disturbing as this could lead to a new level of control of the population. According to Hayles, people who have gotten this implanted ID chip are not so much cyborgs as those who are engrossed in a virtual world.

And here is a website advertising a VR game. It looks like it is similar to the Sims and SecondLife in that it mimics real life, just in cyberspace. It is a direct example of cyberspace as a public sphere, as anyone can sign up, install the game, and join the Kaneva community. In order to join, you must first create your virtual self. This illustrates the idea that identity is a construction. Through limited choices of hair style and color, skin tone, face shape and makeup color, the user is supposed to create the avatar that represents them on cyberspace.

Here is the link to the multitouch computer I mentioned in class. It is short but it shows more than the ten minute video of Mr. Jefferson Han talking. I especially like the virtual representation of file paths on the computer.

As for the showing of Gattaca, I am free pretty much any day after 4 pm.
