The "essence" of the Web

This blog is an evolution from my post earlier this week; paying specific attention to the role that the World Wide Web has played in regards to technology.

The text states that the Web is a demonstration of the notion that technology does not have to be the best technology available, but just has to be good enough to work. Heidegger believes that technology is for one of two basic uses; as a means to an end or technology results from human activity. In this instance the Web is a result of human activity and action, but the Web is also a means to the end. The main idea or essence of this technology is defined as an apparatus to obtain and manage the “best” or the essence of information. Heidegger asserts that modern technology is a means to an end, and further the reading states that we regard technology as neutral. If technology is truly neutral why do we take it upon ourselves to use technology to achieve the “essence” of information?
