The metaphor of new media as a rhizome by Deleuze and Guattari is a very creative and visually helpful when trying to understand the vastness of new media. Much like rhizomes, our new media has thousands upon thousands of different networks, mediums, and platforms to express new ideas and communication worldwide. I have been trying to find a way to explain how this idea might tie into the writings of Borges and his story The Garden of Forking Paths. The best I can come up with is that possibly this rhizome that is new media can also become a rhizome of time. Each different root is a separate existence off of one life, which is discussed by the sinologist and the narrator.

Now as far as coming up with ideas of symbols that represent history and time, I am struggling. For some reason I feel that you really do not need two different symbols for each one since they are so closely related to each other. I mean how time as synchronic is happening all at once and so is our history now because of the electronic age that keeps the world involved with what is going on. Maybe a clock with no hands? Sorry I cannot be of any help here.
