One point McLuhan brings up time and time again that I can really relate to is the artist living in the present and most everyone else living in the past. He explains that we know the past, and it is much safer to live the way we know. However, just because it is typical to live in such a manner, it is not really living in the present. When we come across someone living in the present we gasp at how ahead of their time they are, but really we are just behind. In another section McLuhan may speak of returning to our fundamental beings. He explains we can use media to try to recapture our original fundamental beings. Listening to music and feeling it internally as an extension of ourselves, not just sounds in the background allows us to become attached to the media. This attachment lowers the sensory levels elsewhere causing the body to change. The main issue to me is how to make that change globally attractive in a method that is outside of games and entertainment.

As people live in the past and artists live in the present - I somewhat agree on that. Many people can be dependent on traditional and comfortable mediums of the past but artists try to expand their horizons. I think that sometimes artists try to go against the grain with new ways of experimenting.
