So far I have enjoyed reading everybody's post on this idea about medium and meaning due to the diverse questions and answers that have been presented. Personally I have to agree with Chris with the idea that original content comes from an individuals thoughts. However, I would like to take this concept one step further and discuss how these thoughts are still meaningless without a medium.
After following a "chain" back, the only one who will ever arrive at the original thought or content is the creator of that very idea or thought. I feel this is because many ideas and feelings can't be expressed into words. So meaning must be presented in the form of a medium, in this case language. I believe Maggie touched on this concept in class, saying that she feels things inside her head but due to the restriction of language she can't put those original thoughts into words. Her expression is limited just like theater is restricted in portraying a story because a stage is only so big and actors and directors each have their own interpretation of the story. Only the original author truly knows the meaning.
While this may all be true, I also feel that we are reaching a technological age where true meaning is becoming less overshadowed by the medium. With the advancement of animation and special effects, I feel true content is getting easier to portray then ever before. While a screen will never replace the human mind, technology is able to produce any image that one has in his/her mind. Yet as I said before, content will always stem from the medium due to language but if language is never used, true content might become less connected with the technological medium being used.
